InnPower Corporation leverages Quadra for complex utility estimates and project management

We caught up with Adam Casciato, Manager, Infrastructure Services at InnPower Corporation to understand how the local distribution company, which serves the Town of Innisfil & South Barrie, is using Quadra Job Cost Estimating software to streamline their estimating and project management process.

What challenges did you face with estimating, planning, and project management before implementing Quadra?

Before implementing Quadra, we used a basic Excel spreadsheet for estimating and determining material requirements. However, none of this data was integrated with our GP system, requiring manual entry and making it difficult to track job estimates versus actuals. Additionally, each estimate required us to print a copy of every standard needed for the job and include it in a physical job folder for the operations department to use during construction. This resulted in a large amount of paperwork that had to be scanned and filed once a job was completed. Material tracking and ordering were also challenging because they were done manually.

Briefly tell us how InnPower is using Quadra today and how it has changed your estimating and project management process.

For estimation, InnPower has spent the last four years developing and refining our assembly library to meet our construction needs. We have created a robust system that continuously incorporates feedback from operations to refine existing assemblies or develop new ones. This has streamlined the estimating process for our estimators and made it easier for new hires to learn. Estimators also use tools such as the Estimate to Actuals report to better gauge how they should estimate current and future jobs.

For project management, InnPower uses Quadra for job request creation, estimation, and standard operating procedures (SOP). Recently, we expanded our project management capabilities to include construction, post-construction, and job closing reviews. This has been a significant undertaking, requiring collaboration across multiple teams. We are now able to manage various operations and documentation within the Quadra ecosystem. Our next step is to utilize the Job Reporting feature, which will provide a useful and interactive module to map out the timeline of all our jobs.

What are the key benefits/efficiencies realized since implementing Quadra?

Assemblies and job templates have been the foundation of our administration for the past four years. We have observed significant reductions in errors during job setup (such as incorrect cost codes and project details) and estimation. For new hires, the quick assembly feature has simplified the onboarding process, allowing them to learn the system quickly with minimal errors—something that was a major challenge in the past.

What made you choose Quadra over other job cost estimating solutions?

The time and effort required by all departments were extensive and time-consuming under our old system, which lacked controls and automation. InnPower decided to look for a solution that could integrate with our GP and inventory systems, ultimately leading us to choose Quadra. The seamless integration was a key factor in our choice.

“We have created a robust system that continuously incorporates feedback from operations to refine existing assemblies or develop new ones. This has streamlined the estimating process for our estimators and made it easier for new hires to learn.
